If you are a man who is suffering from hair loss, you should know that there are different ways that you can handle it. Male pattern baldness is very common and treating it is simpler than it has ever been before. Whether you choose to use creams and lotions as an attempt to reverse the process or you are interested in surgical options, there is information you need to know about.
Male pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Surprisingly enough, it is really a genetic condition that is passed down on the woman’s side of the family. The look of male pattern baldness is very familiar. It causes hair loss in the center of the head and leaves a ring around the outside of the head. It often starts with hair loss that isolates a small piece of hair on the front of the head, but then evens out and causes total baldness at the very top of a man’s head.
If you do have male pattern baldness, a small hairstyle is really much better at dealing with the problem than a comb over. There have been so many terrible jokes made about men with a few strands of hair covering a large bald patch. The last thing you want is for your hairstyle to be the butt of jokes and teasing. You want to show how thick and full the hair is on the rest of your head rather than how sparse and fine the hair on the top of your head has become.
Women can experience hair loss as well, although they usually lose their hair due to illness or a condition such as alopecia. Some women have the condition so severely that they can become completely bald. Their hair loss often does not follow any specific pattern and is often spread over the entire head. There are medicines, such as chemotherapy drugs that can cause hair loss in both men and women.
Lotions and creams are often the first line of attack when people are trying to encourage hair growth. There may be the use of supplements or special vitamins as well in some hair growth treatments. You need to know that there are significant differences between men’s hair growth products and women’s. They use different formulations and you certainly need to make sure you are not using the one intended for the opposite gender. They are very potent. Many products even say that a woman who is pregnant or who wants to become pregnant should not touch the wrappings or packaging for a man’s hair product.
Plastic surgery can also be used to disguise or reverse hair loss. With male pattern baldness, hair grows thickly in a ring around the outside of the head. It is possible to extract individual hair follicles and transplant them in bald areas of the head. You can really fill in bald spots over time. It is an expensive process but it can be worth it since it looks so natural. There is also a more radical hair transplant where a flap of skin is transplanted. Hair, blood supply and skin is all transplanted. You need to make sure that if you go with this approach the blood supply is undisturbed so that the tissue continues to grow well. There have been cases of men dealing with gangrene on their heads after a hair flap has died. This is perilous as well as extremely unpleasant.
Many women who are suffering from hair loss prefer to wear a hairpiece. There are a large number of men who prefer to do this as well. If you are interested in purchasing a hairpiece you should know that they are made from either human or synthetic hair. Human hair wigs are substantially more expensive but they are much more natural looking. If you are suffering from alopecia or hair loss due to radiation or chemotherapy, you may find that creams and grafts are not an option for you and a hairpiece is your only choice.
Don’t let hair loss affect your morale and self esteem. It is not nearly as huge an issue as it may have been at one time. Many men and women are choosing to celebrate their new appearance and will simply shave their heads. If you want to treat your hair loss you should know that there are a number of wonderful alternatives that can help you feel more like your ancient self.

MPB can be passed down from the mother’s side or the father’s side. The “mother’s side only” statement is a myth.
